Crusoe, a U.S.-based company positioning itself as the industry’s first vertically integrated AI infrastructure provider, has announced the acquisition of Israeli startup Atero in a move aimed at strengthening its AI cloud capabilities and expanding its global presence. The deal, whose financial details were not disclosed, will give Crusoe access to Atero’s technology for GPU memory optimization and management while establishing its first Middle East office in Tel Aviv.
The acquisition is designed to accelerate Crusoe’s mission of delivering more reliable, efficient, and high-performance AI infrastructure through its Crusoe Cloud platform. By integrating Atero’s patented techniques into its systems, Crusoe intends to boost GPU utilization rates for resource-heavy AI applications such as large language model (LLM) inference. This integration is expected to improve performance and scalability while reducing energy consumption – an increasingly important factor in the sustainability debates surrounding artificial intelligence infrastructure.
Chase Lochmiller, Crusoe’s co-founder and CEO, said the combination will allow the company to maximize value for customers investing in compute resources. “By optimizing memory utilization, we can make sure our customers have their data in the right place at the right time to maximize GPU utilization rates and get more out of the money they spend on compute,” he explained. Lochmiller added that the establishment of a Tel Aviv office not only allows Crusoe to serve new customers in the region but also gives the company access to a highly skilled workforce.
For Atero, joining Crusoe represents an opportunity to scale its innovations more rapidly. “When we founded Atero, we set out to transform the industry with our technology, and joining Crusoe is the fastest path to achieving that mission,” said Atero CEO Alon Yariv. He noted that both companies share a belief in vertical integration as a defining trend in the future of AI infrastructure.
Atero’s co-founders, Alon Yariv and CTO Omer Landau, launched the company in 2024 with backing from New York’s Primary VC and Israel’s Lool Ventures, focusing on improving efficiency in high-performance GPU computing environments.
Expertise in Memory and GPU Management
The addition of Atero’s team is intended to accelerate the development of Crusoe Cloud’s managed services portfolio, combining Crusoe’s existing technology stack with deep technical expertise in memory systems and GPU management. For enterprise clients, hyperscalers, and developers, the promise is an infrastructure platform that delivers enhanced reliability and scalability, which are increasingly vital as AI workloads grow in complexity and demand.
The opening of the Tel Aviv office would also underscore Crusoe’s ambitions to become a global player in AI infrastructure. Israel’s strong talent base in areas such as chip design, AI, and high-performance computing provides Crusoe with an opportunity to tap into a pool of specialists while building its customer base in a region that has become an important hub for digital innovation.
The deal would reflect broader trends in the AI infrastructure market, where performance optimization and energy efficiency are becoming strategic priorities for cloud providers. For Crusoe, absorbing Atero’s technology and expertise positions the company to deliver on its promise of vertically integrated AI infrastructure while expanding its geographic footprint.
