Global web hosting provider A2 Hosting, part of World Host Group managing 30+ web hosting brands, has announced a major rebranding initiative, unveiling a new identity as Hosting.com. The move signals a strategic transformation aimed at aligning the company’s brand with its global ambitions and technological evolution after more than two decades of operation.

In 2011, the domain DataCenter.com was sold for $352,500, which was actually a bargain at the time. In 2011, Apple bought the domain iCloud for a stunning $4.5 million. Earlier, in 2005, $3.2 million was paid for the domain Software.com. Other examples of expensive domain names include Internet.com in 2009 ($18 million), IT.com in 2022 ($3.8 million), and AI.com in 2023 ($11 million). According to World Host Group co-founder and CTO Dominic Taylor, the amount paid for the domain name Hosting.com remains confidential. He described the transaction as a fair deal for both World Host Group and the seller. The sale was facilitated by domain brokerage firm Saw.com.

Founded in 2001 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, A2 Hosting started as a small, engineer-led initiative focused on empowering businesses and individuals to thrive online. After over two decades of growth, A2 Hosting was acquired by World Host Group in January 2025.  The company is a major player not just in the North American market, but global market as well. It has a global network of data centers spanning the U.S., Europe, Asia, and beyond. With customers and servers now distributed worldwide, company leadership believes the Hosting.com brand better represents its current scale and future aspirations.

The decision to transition to Hosting.com was not made lightly. A2 Hosting company executives emphasized that the rebrand is not merely cosmetic but represents a broader shift in vision and capabilities. The rebrand is designed to enhance global recognition, offering benefits to customers through increased visibility.

Series of Upgrades

Hosting.com has committed to rolling out a series of upgrades, including a faster and more intuitive website, a feature-rich customer panel, and a broader range of tools designed to streamline the hosting experience. These enhancements aim to serve a growing community of hyperscale and enterprise clients, as well as small to medium-sized businesses seeking reliable digital infrastructure.

Despite the change in name, Hosting.com assures customers that core services will remain unchanged. The company’s support teams, hosting products, and commitment to 24/7 service excellence would continue uninterrupted.

The rebrand builds upon a legacy marked by key innovations, including the introduction of VPS hosting in 2007, the launch of Turbo Hosting for optimized speed in 2014, the adoption of NVMe storage in 2020, and the rollout of the Turbo Hub customer portal in 2023. With expanded resources now available, the company plans to invest further in infrastructure and technology, reinforcing its position in an increasingly competitive hosting landscape.

The hosting sector has seen rapid consolidation and growth in recent years, fueled by surging global demand for cloud services, edge computing, and AI-driven infrastructure. Hosting.com’s rebranding effort is seen as a calculated step to ensure it remains at the forefront of these trends while staying true to its engineering-led, customer-focused origins.

In a message to customers, Chief Evangelist Cory Miller expressed deep gratitude for the community’s longstanding trust and loyalty. “This next chapter is possible because of your support. We’re proud of where we came from and even more excited about what lies ahead.”
