Global hyperscale data center developer and operator Yondr Group has announced the completion of the first phase of its second data center on its 100MW London campus. The new facility, located in Slough, West London – widely regarded as the UK’s most concentrated data center ecosystem – now has 10MW of its total 30MW capacity online.
The milestone marks another step forward in Yondr’s strategic expansion across Europe. Earlier this year, the company began construction on a third 40MW data center at the same London site. The first facility became operational in mid-2024, and Yondr’s Frankfurt development hit its own ready-for-service (RFS) benchmark in November 2024. These ongoing developments underscore Yondr’s growing presence in key European data center markets.
Designed with a strong sustainability mandate, the Slough facility aligns with Yondr’s ESG commitments and its goal to reach net zero for Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions by 2030. The building has achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ certification and boasts an annualized power usage effectiveness (PUE) of 1.21 – exceeding current industry standards. Key sustainability features include a southern green wall, rooftop solar PV panels, and numerous electric vehicle parking spaces. A long-term horticultural plan is in place to ensure these installations mature and contribute positively to the facility’s environmental footprint.
Supporting Local Biodiversity
Community integration has also been central to Yondr’s approach. The company worked closely with Slough Borough Council and the Canal & River Trust to ensure the data center campus enhances the surrounding area. The project included significant environmental remediation on the former industrial site, once home to a paint factory. Soil and groundwater contamination were addressed through intensive cleanup efforts.
In addition to ecological restoration, Yondr is supporting local biodiversity with the installation of bat and bird boxes and is refurbishing a nearby cycle path. The company also introduced a technical apprenticeship program tied to the project, aiming to have four apprentices active on the campus by the end of 2025.
“We’re building our London campus quickly and to a very high standard of sustainability, resilience, and dependability,” said Peter Hill, vice president of Design & Construction EMEA at Yondr. “This latest milestone not only demonstrates our commitment to meeting client demand but also reinforces Slough’s role as a critical international hub for digital infrastructure.”
Mr. Hill emphasized that the continued transformation of a former industrial site into a state-of-the-art data center campus reflects Yondr’s broader ambition to support the UK’s digital economy and the global surge in data demand.
